StopTech/C-Tek – Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotors

When I needed new front brakes I decided to get an upgrade which included stainless steel lines, new high-performance pads, new high-temperature brake fluid, and of course these StopTech 127.34138R/L Sport Drilled/Slotted Brake Rotors.

The idea behind using a drilled and slotted rotor is two-fold; it keeps the rotor cooler when used in track or racing conditions (particularly useful in running mountain switchbacks at speed) and they clear water or other debris quickly allowing them to stop better in adverse conditions.

They also happen to look really awesome on the vehicle, so there is that.

Since these were part of a complete brake overhaul I can not tell you that these do or do not stop faster than factory rotors. I can tell you that when combined with the other components of my brake overhaul they certainly do stop the vehicle a lot faster.

On the downside, they generate more brake noise than the factory rotors but when you are screaming around a 20 mph blind curve at 45 mph and come upon the rear end of someone stopped on the other side how much noise you make while stopping really isn’t a concern. The fact that you stop way shorter than your car would have with factory brakes, that is the real issue.

So maybe you are not the type of person to fly around a blind curve at speed (really?), it is still useful for being in traffic doing the speed limit when the person in front of you switches lanes quickly to reveal an extremely slow or stopped vehicle right in front of your path. Upgraded brakes can make the difference between a totaled vehicle and stopping safely.

One word of warning, brakes are only as good as the weakest link in the chain. You can have the best brakes known to man but if your tires are in poor condition, or they are cheap tires, you still are not going to stop. Buster is running wider tires on wider rims than factory, with high-performance tires in very good shape so this upgrade makes him stop on a dime.

So far they seem to be wearing just slightly faster than the factory rotors, and that is to be expected considering I am also using a more aggressive brake pad. I still think I will get around 50,000 miles or more out of them.

The quality and finish on these rotors seem excellent, I could find no defects or issues with them at all. When they eventually wear out I will absolutely replace them with the same rotors. I give the StopTech 127.34138R/L Sport Drilled/Slotted Brake Rotors five out of five stars.
